The Memory of Jacaranda

  • After the quiet of winter, the most cheerful season arrives, carried on a gentle breeze. Vibrant and shimmery, yet fleeting and fragile, its beauty is a treasure to cherish. This series celebrates the awakening of this radiant season, inviting you to relish its radiant splendor before it softly fades.

  • When I moved to Australia from Japan in September 2015, jacaranda trees welcomed me to this unfamiliar land. In Japan, these trees were unknown to me - I didn’t know their name or their stories - but their delicate mauve blooms brought serenity and peace when I felt a little sorrow in this new place. I remember gazing at petals swaying in the gentle breeze, drifting like soft snow to form a tranquil mauve carpet. As spring sunlight shifted, it bathed the petals and branches in a golden shimmer, illuminating their fleeting beauty.

  • The more I learned about jacarandas, the more I saw them as heralds of spring, celebrating the season’s serene awakening after winter’s chill. Yet, as the seasons turn, their delicate blooms fade, reminding me of life’s ephemeral moments. These trees not only welcomed me and kept me company in my new home but also taught me that nothing lasts forever - a truth that makes their beauty even more precious.

  • This collection of jacaranda photographs, available only for a fleeting moment, mirrors their ephemeral nature. It invites you to celebrate the radiant awakening of the season and cherish its luminous splendor before it gently fades.
